The insignias on their mugs: „Life is too short to drink bad coffee!“ For some time now they buy green coffee beans and roast them in their garage. After a few experiments with different varieties ranging from grandmother to espresso roasts, they found their best coffee in the world: it is called Yirga Cheffe, 100% Arabica, and comes from Ethiopia. On the tracks of the „black witches‘ brew“, Herbert and Ramona travel 4300 kilometers through former Abessinia. Accompanied by a film crew, an interpreter and sometimes armed soldiers, they collect photo and film ma- terial for their project „The last coffee before the desert“. For five weeks they are immersed in cultures spanning thousands of years, ride through gigantic landscapes, encounter Rastafarians in Shashamene, marvel at the cliff churches of Lalibela, visit the tribe of the Afar warriors with „desert angel“ Valerie Browning, are mesmerized by the earth‘s interior on the Erta Ale volcano and its active sea of lava, subject the Touratech accessories on the four BMW F 800 GS and the BMW G650 Xchallenge to an endurance test in the Danakil depression whilst enjoying the occasional cup of „Buna“, the name for coffee in Ethiopia.
