2002 During a photo shooting of BMY Motorcycles for the new BMW R 1150 GS Adventure, adven- ture photographer Michael Martin and Herbert are freezing their „butts off“ on the Bolivian Altiplano. This type of experience unites people. Michael, who has always wanted to visit Tibet and regards his friend Herbert as a glutton for punishment, suggests a trip by motorcycle to Mount Kailash. Every two years a pilgrimage is held there. Every true Buddhist, so the saying, has to have done this once in his life. And every twelve years the so- called Saga Dawa Feast reaches massive proportions with some 60,000 visitors. From Delhi, through India and Nepal, Herbert and his BMW R 1150 GS with Touratech cases and racks and Heike with her BMW F 650 GS with converted 39 li- ter tank, make their way to Kathmandu. There they meet Michael who is busy taking photos for his new illustrated book „Deserts of the Earth“. His passenger is camerawoman Elke Wallner. Together they shoot fantastic photos and films of the Himalayas. Despite many enjoyable experiences, the extreme height bet- ween 4000 and 5500 meters and the icy cold sap our strength.
