1993 1990 1995 2000 2005 2010 2015 1993 As part of his work as photographer and tour guide for the „Motorrad“ magazi- ne, Herbert makes the acquaintance of bike racer Jutta Kleinschmidt and Mi- chael Griep. The two make him and his partner, Heike Bogdanski, an offer they could not refuse. „Do you fancy joining us as motorcycle riding photographers on the Paris-Dakar Rally and taking pictures of us?“ And then disillusion set in: it is more than difficult - if not impossible - to be faster than a competing rider with a fully loaded BMW R 100GS. „And this is what we had needed to be in order to be in the right spots at the right time“, summarized Herbert. „Nonetheless we took some really cool photos with the Nikon F5 and the newly developed Tripmaster IMO-100 R also proved itself as rally computer.“ And Herbert has a small anecdote in store: „It is unbelievable how wiped out you can be! Nearly 1000 kilometers off-road per day - that exhausted me ful- ly! One night we finally arrived at the camp and had to leave again at 05.00 hours. After one week of this, sleep finally overtook us. One morning we woke up in the desert and were surrounded by delightful peace. It was only when I peered out of the tent, that I noticed that everyone had left. It took us days to catch up with the rest in Mauretania.“ Paris-Da kar-Pa ris
